About the cemetery

Character and history

This neighbourhood cemetery on Gottleubaer Straße combines its chapel, historic family graves, Luther lime tree and on-site cemetery gardening service. It opened in 1883 and was rebuilt after serious destruction in 1945.

Gotthilf Ludwig Möckel designed the grounds and chapel, which were inaugurated on 16 July 1883. Central buildings were destroyed on 13 February 1945. The chapel reconstruction ended in 1956; the four Evangelist figures at its entrance were moved here in 1962 from the demolished Erlöserkirche.
